Two comments from a recent bloggers conference sum up the essence of what a blog should be about:

1- The reasons to blog are to increase visibility, save time and money. Blogs make money via the bloggers expertise, media exposure, and search engine ranking.

His simple niche market identifier: "A good niche is a group of people that either have a strong passion about something or have a lot of problems."

2- Then one speaker made this seemingly obvious but often overlooked comment: He said, “the first rule of social media is to listen. Then determine your tools, and build your community around those tools. He also illustrated the idea by listing:

"the 5 Cs" - Curiosity, Connection, Confidence, Conversation, and Community.”

The blog world has deeply implanted itself as a force to be reckoned with and is not going away. So, consider these 5 blogging advice ideas:

5 Specific Tips to Increase Blog Rankings

In order to increase your blog’s search engine ranking you must first understand the basic concepts of search engine optimization (SEO). The basic concept here is: that popular blogs with great content updated often will generally fare better in the search engine rankings.

So, here are some of the specific steps you can take to boost your blog rankings in the major search engines.

• Only publish original, high-quality content. There are a lot of business blogs online that simply recycle (regurgitate?) what other people are saying. Don’t be one of these blogs. If you are serious about your future blog ranking in search engines — and your blog success in general — you will need to be original with your content.

• Be social. Join the increasingly social aspect of the web by associating with other business bloggers. Point out content on other blogs that you find relevant and interesting, and people will be more likely to link back to you.

• Submit your business blog to web directories. There are plenty of them listed in my guide to blog visibility if you’re curious. Each directory that lists your blog will give you one more link to your blog. By steadily increasing your link popularity, as it is known, you will also be boosting the search engine ranking of your blog.

• Make your blog a valuable resource. If your blog is remarkable in some way, people will be more inclined to share it with others, link to it, talk about it, etc. All of these things equal better blog ranking and more traffic. Make your blog a valuable resource for your target audience, and watch your blog rankings soar.
