Online Better Business Bureau
For many years I had my offline businesses join the Better Business Bureau and now that I’m online I’ve aligned with the organization to do online business.
It is, of course, not necessary that every business become a member of the BBB however it is such a small fee the question is why not?
Now, frankly if all you will be doing is
affiliate marketing
, then it probably isn’t necessary even though it is a small amount. If you are simply blogging for cash,
blogging for cash
using adsense and generally redirecting visitors to other company sites then you really don’t need to think about joining the Online Better Business Bureau (which is actually a local organization that you join in your own specific city or region).
However, if you have your own product, are involved in several businesses and market using all the different models we’ve discussed in these pages then it is a good idea to just go ahead and sign up with the Online Better Business Bureau. You will already be following all the rules noted below anyway if you are building a real business of which you will be proud.
But if you are just getting started and are not yet driving any traffic to your site, then wait until you’ve achieved a measure of success with these essential business building elements before joining. Actually, you will see below that one of the requirements is that your business be established for at least one year.
Here is the Better Business Bureau Online criteria from the BBB site: [
• Become a BBB Accredited Business;
• Provide the BBB with information regarding ownership and management and the street address and telephone number at which they do business, which may be verified by the BBB in a visit to the business's physical premises;
• Be in business a minimum of one year (an exception can be made if a new business is a spinoff or a division of an existing business, which is known to and has a positive track record with the BBB);
• Have a satisfactory complaint handling record with the BBB;
• Agree to participate in BBB's advertising self-regulation program, comply with the Code of Advertising, and correct or withdraw online advertising when challenged by the BBB and found not to be substantiated or not in compliance with our children's advertising guidelines;
• Agree to abide by the Code of Online Business Practices, and to cooperate with any BBB request for modification of a web site to bring it into accordance with the Code;
• Respond promptly to all customer complaints;
• Agree to dispute resolution, at the customer's request, for unresolved disputes involving consumer products or services. For more information, click here.
BBBs do not endorse any business, product or service and participation in a BBB program is not a guarantee by the BBB of the business's performance. BBBOnLine participants have agreed to meet our program standards, including resolving customer disputes through our dispute resolution processes, which have a proven customer-friendly track record.]
